The Aviation Court is similar to the Shipping Court, which tries skippers if they are considered negligent while carrying out their profession, leading to casualties.
"Indeed, there is Shipping Court in the sea, as many shipping incidents occur, but (Aviation Court) is somewhat different. Thus, we can consider the proposal, and we will see what the urgency is," Kalla stated at the Vice Presidential office here on Tuesday.
Kalla stressed the need for a study and research related to the formation of the Aviation Court to be applied in Indonesia, so that its formation can be effective and efficient in the aviation world.
"I did not say that it is unnecessary, but we will examine how far it should be," he added.
The formation of Aviation Court was again proposed by the former Air Force Chief of Staff Chappy Hakim, adding that such proposal emerged in 1955 following frequent aircraft accidents.
Chappy remarked that the formation of the Aviation Court was in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 1 of 2009 concerning Aviation.
The proposed formation of the Aviation Court was once discussed by the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) in 2007.
At the moment, the Ministry of Transportation opined that the court was not needed because it would only cause concern for pilots in carrying out their duties.
In addition, the number of aircraft and ship accidents was also taken into consideration in the formation of the Aviation Court. This time, the incidence of airplane accidents was considered less than accidents on land and sea.
"Many say that aircraft security is very safe, because it is wide. More people die from accidents on land than in the air, in terms of the percentage of people or the number of flights," the vice president added.
With the increase in the number of flights and airplane passengers in Indonesia, Kalla assessed that the potential for aircraft accidents is certainly getting higher. But the number of accidents is still less than the number of sea or land accidents.
