Mohd Fairuz Abd Jalil, 33, made the plea before judge Madihah Harullah.
He was charged with accepting RM3,000, RM5,000 and RM2,000 in bribes from a man as inducement to not take action against the latter for having and selling smuggled cigarettes in Taman Kiara, Sikamat, here.
The offence was committed at three different locations, namely the Sikamat police station, a convenience store in Taman Sri Pulai and Sikamat police station barracks between Dec 7 and 13, 2014.
The court thus sentenced Mohd Fairuz to four months’ jail from today and fined him RM25,000 or 20 months’ jail in default, under Section 24 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.
DPP Mohamad Azrif Firdaus Mohamad Ali from the MACC appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented in court.
