Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah handed down the sentence on restaurant worker N.Arumugan, 45, after he changed his plea to guilty on the first day of the trial.
The court ordered the accused to serve his prison sentence from the date of arrest on May 12, 2018.
Arumugan was charged with causing the death of compatriot Balagurusamy at a house in Jalan Ismail Ghaney, Off Jalan Ipoh, Kampung Kasipillay here between 11.30pm on May 10 and 1am on May 11 last year.
For the offence he is liable to be imprisoned for up to 10 years, be fined or both.
According to the facts of the case, on May 10 last year the accused and the victim returned home drunk, after a celebration.
Subsequently there was an argument and the duo got into a fight causing the victim to fall, hitting his head against the edge of a table.
The next day when the accused woke the victim up to get ready for work, the victim told him that he was not feeling well and the accused took him to a hospital
However, the victim died at the hospital due to a brain injury following the scuffle.
