Judge Azura Alwi handed down the sentence on Kamaruzaman Jusoh, 43, after he changed his plea to guilty. He paid the fine.
Kamaruzaman was charged with attempting to deceive Nur Aisyah Roling through a telephone call by prompting the woman to hand over RM100,000 to settle a case involving her husband.
The father of six committed the offence at Wangsa Maju Aeon Big here at 1.30pm on Dec 14, 2016.
The charge, under Section 415 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 417 of the same Code and read together with Section 28 (1) (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, provides an imprisonment for up to five years, or fine, or both.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor from MACC Mohd Asnawi Abu Hanipah, while Kamaruzaman was represented by lawyer Datuk Dr Mohd Radzuan Ibrahim.
According to the facts of the case, Kamaruzaman contacted the woman and introduced himself as a Home Ministry's officer and offered to help settle a case involving her husband .
The accused told the woman that she needed to pay RM300,000 for her husband's release, and the woman agreed to pay RM100,000 as initial payment.
Kamaruzaman told the woman that he would send someone to collect the money at a restaurant.
