KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) - Three laws regarding environment and wildlife will be amended to improve its governance, management and enforcement, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Deputy Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji said the three acts were the National Forestry Act 1984, Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and Environmental Quality Act 1974 which is under the Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry.
"Most of the enforcement is within the jurisdiction of the state government. So, the amendments to the acts will involve the enforcement at the federal government level," he said.
He was replying to Ahmad Nazlan Idris (BN-Jerantut) who had wanted to know about the amendment to combat exploitation of flora and fauna in the country.
Replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (PBB-Santubong) on the current status of the proposed amendments, Tengku Zulpuri said it was in the discussion stage involving the ministry, Attorney-General's Chambers and Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia.
It will then be tabled in Parliament within six months, he added.
