Sessions Court judge Yang Zaimey Yang Ghazali today sentenced the prisoner, Shee Fook, who pleaded guilty to two counts of being engaged in the transaction of proceeds from unlawful activities, amounting to RM285,000, to jail of 20 months and 26 months, on each count.
"After considering the mitigation by the accused and submission by the defence, I order the jail sentences to be served concurrently upon completion of the current jail term, “ he said.
Shee, who is serving time at the Kajang Prison, was sentenced to 20 months jail for using RM35,000, in proceeds from unlawful activities, from his saving account at CIMB Bank Malaysia Bhd, aman Serdang Perdana branch, Seri Kembangan, Serdang near here on Feb 17, 2015.
He was sentenced to 26 months jail for using another RM250,000 in proceeds from unlawful activities, from his saving accounts at Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, Sri Petaling branch, Kuala Lumpur, between Feb 13 and 16, 2015.
In mitigation, Shee, who was unrepresented, requested for a light jail sentence and to be served concurrently with his current jail term on grounds that he had diabetes and regretted his action.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin.
