Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) enforcement chief Datuk Mohd Shafie Harun said in a statement here today that the four were charged in court recently and sentenced.
In the first case, Chen Kar Seng, the owner of Media Home Enterprise, who pleaded guilty to possessing 146 television sets and not declaring his intent to sell them, was fined RM40,000.
The second case involved three individuals comprising Hing Fook Young, Tan Kim Sia and Ow Kee Foo of MSB Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd - they were fined RM30,000 after pleading guilty to selling seven 'AV Sender' units which did not meet industry standards and were undeclared.
Mohd Shafie advised consumers to only purchase equipment bearing MCMC labels for the purposes of ensuring their safety and to avoid disruption to communications and multimedia services .
