The Royal Gazette has publicized the Government Lottery Act (second) B.E. 2562 which was effective from May 23. The Government Lottery Act has authorized the Government Lottery Committee to issue new forms of lottery and submit them for cabinet approval, such as Lotto, Lottery Online and Lottery Scratch, revise the allocation of lottery tickets for vendors and increase the legal penalties for wrongdoing lottery vendors.
A study is currently underway on the new forms of lottery such as Lotto, regarding the number of cash prizes, the number of lottery rounds in a month and the amount of each cash prize. The new law provides for the jackpot or other prizes which might not be won in a round on the 1st of a month to be added up to those to be won in the next round on the 16th of the month. If no lottery holders win the jackpot or other prizes in both rounds, the prizes will be returned to the state coffer. That is unlike lottery in other countries where the untapped prizes may be accumulated. A public hearing will be conducted on the new forms of lottery before the Government Lottery Committee forwards them to the cabinet.
Besides, the Government Lottery Act stipulates the legal penalties which have increased from a maximum of 2,000 baht in fine to a maximum of 10,000 baht in fine for lottery vendors who may have overcharged the price or sold lottery tickets in schools or other educational institutes or sold them to buyers aged under 20 years.
