The Thai lawmakers approved the Ethical Standards Act in the third and final reading to ensure ethics and morality among state officials.
Section 5 of the law stipulates that public servants and government officials protect the three main institutions of Thailand - the nation, religion, and the monarchy - and that they must adhere to the code of conduct while upholding impartiality and professionalism.
Under Sector 8, an ethical standards committee will be appointed with the prime minister as head of the 6-member committee to consist of representatives from each sector of the government.
The law mandates the government support ethical promotion activities and offer incentives to help government officers maintain their ethical vows.
The Ethical Standards Act will be assessed every five years or earlier if needs be.
