Along with the comments, NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said the charter drafting organ has suggested that the legislature seek a Constitutional Court ruling on the constitutionality of the organic NACC bill, especially the section pertaining to the qualifications of NACC commissioners.
Not only the bill allows the incumbent commissioners to stay in office, it also extends their terms to 9 years.
The 2017 charter mandates that the legislative assembly solicit input from concerned parties after approving a draft organic act. Should differences arise, a 3-party committee must be formed to consider the bill before the NLA tables it again for a vote. The Constitutional Court acts as the last resort to settle differences should they continue.
The draft organic NACC Act was passed by the lawmakers in December.
