CDC chairperson Meechai Ruchuphan said a notice of an appeal in the rice pledging scheme case against former Prime Minister Yingluck cannot be filed on her behalf, as the law clearly stipulates that the defendant must physically appear before the judges for an appeal to be processed.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday read out its verdict, finding the former premier guilty of dereliction of duty in the rice subsidy program that cost her administration billions of baht.
Yingluck however, fled the country last month to avoid attending the announcement of the verdict.
When asked about the three police officers accused of helping Yingluck escape, Meechai said he couldn’t say if the officers had broken any law because he didn’t know the details of the investigation. If later found guilty, the three officers could face legal penalties and disciplinary actions.
