The department on Monday signed an MoU with the Thai Retailers Association and 18 retailers selling excise products. The MoU requires that the retailers inform the department of the retail prices of their excise products every quarter. Median prices which will be used in excise tax collection and audit processes will be calculated from the retail prices.
Director-General of the Excise Department Kritsada Chinawicharana said today that the system enables retailers to scan the barcodes of their excise products and send the details to the department instantly.
At present the excise tax is based on a suggested retail price. The Director-General confirmed that consumers and entrepreneurs won't be affected by the new excise tax system although it is calculated on a higher base, as the department has decreased excise tax rates to maintain balance, he said.
