Finance Minister Aphisak Tantiworawong said today that the government’s year-end gift of 500 baht to 11.4 million state welfare cardholders between December 8th and 10th does not expire and will not be reclaimed. Moreover, the 500-baht cash handout can be used with money deposited in state welfare cards to lower the cost of living by 200-300 baht per month. Cardholders can purchase necessities from Blue Flag stores and other shops that comply with the scheme from December 15th and can claim a 5% VAT refund next month. Those who are members of the National Savings Fund (NSF) will also receive a 1% rebate after making a purchase using a state welfare card.
The Finance Minister added that the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) is investigating the case of a middle-aged woman posting on social media her 500-baht cash handout with a golden necklace. The authority said that if she is proven guilty of misuse of funds, she will be disqualified from the state welfare card scheme.
